Welcome to the Birmingham Sailing Club, a private club on Lake Logan Martin (an Alabama Power lake on the Coosa River) in central Alabama about 40 miles east of Birmingham, that is dedicated to:

  • Providing sailing programs for our members
  • Promoting sailing and sailboat racing among our members
  • Promoting water safety
  • Encouraging a harmonious, friendly atmosphere for social activities

Start of Sunday Race

About the Club

Located 10 miles south of Pell City, the club owns nine acres of land on Logan Martin Lake. The property is on the west side of the lake some two miles above Logan Martin Dam. At this site, the lake is approximately one mile wide and affords excellent sailing conditions.

The club house is located atop a knoll that furnishes a panoramic view of the lake and sailing area.

Club house facilities include a large central area with a fireplace, men's and women's dressing rooms, hot showers, kitchen and a large deck looking over the lake.

Waterfront facilities include paved launching ramps, and both fixed and floating docks. A fenced parking area provides dry slips for members boats. Wet slips are available for members who prefer leaving larger boats in the water.

In addition to sailing, the Club provides facilities for swimming in Logan Martin Lake, picnicking, camping, and a play ground for children.

On the Road: Thistle Fleet 110

    Watch it via drone:

Though it is an inconvenience, I was kind of hoping a barge would come down the river. Nothing like being in a tiny boat on a big water and sailing next to a 100 yard long barge to make you feel a bit insignificant. But really, sailing against some of the best sailors in the country, I really didn’t need a barge to feel insignificant.

    Ironman for the Books

This year’s Ironman was certainly one for the record books. Those who were there will likely recall it as one of the most challenging and exhilarating regattas they have ever sailed. Saturday morning was drizzly and overcast with little to no wind as the racers gathered in the clubhouse to register and make their own predictions about what would happen once the front came through. By noon, 22 boats forming 4 fleets - Flying Scots, Thistles, J-22s, and Open - had registered. Some had come from as far away as Kentucky and Missouri to sail at BSC for the weekend. As the skipper’s meeting concluded, the wind was beginning to pick up with strong gusts rolling in from the WNW. Within about 15 minutes of starting the first race, there were 2 turtled boats and 2 more capsizes. Thanks to the quick assistance of a wonderful race committee along with a couple of support boats, no one was injured and all boats were eventually returned to an upright position. Three races were carried out for most of the fleets with wind conditions holding throughout the afternoon. Dinner that evening, provided by our very own Ziggy, was filled with stories of rescuing capsized boats along with entertaining recollections from the three members of the J-22 fleet that fell off of three separate boats.

    Adam Young's 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off!

Adam Young’s Second Annual Chili Cook-off produced some classic trash talk and some pretty darn good chili. February sailing usually attracts 3-4 boats that may or may not race. With the promise of good food and drink, wind, sun (but cold! Temp 42 at the gun), 15 boats turned out to compete.
