Birmingham Sailing Club encourages fleet racing.

Flying Scot

The Flying Scot is 19' long and weighs 850 lbs. Sailed by two or three people, the Flying Scot has 191 sq. feet of sail, consisting of a main and jib, plus a 200 sq. ft. spinnaker. The Scot has a high boom and wide decks. The Scot can be easily trailered.

The Scot fleet hosts the Great Scot regatta in the fall of each year.

J22 sail boats racing in one day regatta

J-22

The J22 is 22'6" long and weighs 1,815 lbs. Sailed by three or four people, the J22 has 242 sq. ft. of sail, consisting of a main and jib, plus a large spinnaker. The J22 can be trailered.

Laser

The Laser is 13' 10" long, weighs 130 lbs and is an Olympic class boat. Sailed by one person, the Laser has 76 sq. ft. of sail, consisting of a main. (A smaller radial sail is also available.) The Laser can be easily trailered. The Laser fleet hosts a regatta in the spring of each year.

Snipe sailboat

Snipe

The Snipe is 15'6" long and weighs 381 lbs. Normally sailed by two people, the Snipe has 128 sq. feet of sail, consisting of a main and jib. It has a high boom and wide decks. The Snipe can be easily trailered.

Thistle

The Thistle is 17' long and weighs 515 lbs. Sailed by two or three people, the Thistle has 191 sq. ft. of sail, consisting of a main and jib, plus a 220 sq. ft. spinnaker. The Thistle can be easily trailered. The Thistle fleet hosts the Great Pumpkin regatta each fall.

Multihulls

The multihull fleet consists of Hobies, NACRAs and Prindles. The fleet hosts the Cat Caper regatta each fall.

Auxiliary Boats

BSC's auxiliary fleet consists of keel boats ranging in length from 21 to 27 feet. In addition to cruising and the clubs' regular racing, the fleet races on designated Saturdays throughout the year.
